Arsenal To Open Title Defence Against Coventry As Premier League Releases 2026/27 Fixtures
Defending champions Arsenal will kick off the 2026/27 Premier League season at home to newly promoted Coventry City after the full fixture list for the new campaign was unveiled earlier today, June 19.
The curtain-raiser is scheduled for Friday, August 21, at the Emirates Stadium, where Mikel Arteta’s side will begin the defence of the title they won last season, their first Premier League crown since 2004. Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, return to the top flight for the first time in 25 years after winning the Championship.
Hull City, who secured promotion through the Championship play-offs, will host Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, August 22, while fellow promoted side Ipswich Town welcome Sunderland to Portman Road later the same day.
Manchester City’s first Premier League fixture since Pep Guardiola’s departure comes at home against Bournemouth on Sunday, August 23. Bournemouth also enter a new era under manager Marco Rose.
Liverpool’s first league match under Andoni Iraola will see the Reds travel to Newcastle United on the same day. Iraola took charge at Anfield after replacing the sacked Arne Slot, having previously managed Bournemouth.
Chelsea begin life under new manager Xabi Alonso with a London derby away to Fulham on Monday, August 24. Fulham are still searching for a replacement for Marco Silva following his exit.
Tottenham face a challenging run-in at the end of the season. Spurs, who finished 17th in each of the last two campaigns, travel to Arsenal on May 1, host Chelsea on May 8 and Manchester United on May 23 before ending the season away to Aston Villa on May 30.
The Premier League has also confirmed that clubs will receive a minimum 60-hour break between fixtures over the Christmas and New Year period. A full Boxing Day schedule has been retained.
The league warned supporters that fixture changes are likely throughout the season because nine Premier League clubs will participate in UEFA competitions.
The Premier League said: “We will endeavour to announce fixtures with as much notice as possible, but as we saw last season, there will be changes made at shorter notice than desired if clubs progress into the latter stages of European competitions.”
The season starts a week later than the previous campaign to allow additional recovery time following the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The final round of matches will be played on May 30, 2027, with all games kicking off simultaneously at 4pm.
