Real Madrid Complete Marc Cucurella Signing From Chelsea

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Spain international Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, with the left-back putting pen to paper on a six-year deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.

The Spanish giants announced on Sunday that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea for the transfer of the 27-year-old defender, making him Madrid’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

“Real Madrid C. F. and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032,” the club said in a statement earlier today, June 15.

While neither club disclosed the transfer fee, reports indicate Madrid will pay an initial €55 million, with a further €5 million in potential add-ons.

Chelsea also confirmed Cucurella’s departure, bringing an end to his three-year spell at Stamford Bridge.

“Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid,” Chelsea said.

The club added: “Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements.

“We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career.”

Cucurella arrived at Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and went on to make 163 appearances for the Blues. During his time in west London, he helped the club win the UEFA Europa Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

The defender also established himself as Spain’s first-choice left-back and was part of the squad that lifted the UEFA European Championship in 2024.

His move to Madrid comes shortly after José Mourinho’s appointment as the club’s new manager, with reports suggesting the Portuguese coach was instrumental in pushing through the deal.

Cucurella is currently with the Spain squad in the United States ahead of their World Cup opener against Cabo Verde and will now turn his attention to the tournament before beginning the next chapter of his career in Madrid.

The Catalonia-born defender began his career at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy before spells at Eibar, Getafe, Brighton and Chelsea.
