Edo Queens Crowned NWFL Champions After Super Six Win
Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) after finishing top of the Super Six standings in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The Benin-based club sealed the title on Sunday, June 14, following a goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens in their final match of the competition.
The result took Edo Queens to 10 points from five games, enough to secure the title on goal difference ahead of Bayelsa Queens, who also finished on 10 points but settled for second place.
Edo Queens’ title-winning campaign saw them record three victories, one draw and one defeat. Their only loss came in the opening game against Nasarawa Amazons, but they responded strongly to claim the crown.
Nasarawa Amazons finished third with eight points after a 0-0 draw against Rivers Angels on the final day. Rivers Angels ended the tournament in fourth position.
In the other fixture, FC Robo and Abia Angels shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Abia Angels concluded the competition in fifth place with four points, while FC Robo finished bottom with three points.
Reacting to the achievement, Edo Queens head coach, Moses Aduku, praised his players for showing character after their difficult start to the tournament.
He said, “It has been a rewarding season for us after winning the trophy. Despite losing the first game, they picked themselves up and did Edo proud. I commend them.”
Aduku also acknowledged the support of the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Council, Amadin Enabulele, and residents of the state, describing their backing as a key factor behind the team’s success.
Enabulele described the triumph as more than just winning silverware, saying it reflected the state’s commitment to developing future stars.
“I am happy we have won. The victory is beyond winning the trophy; it is about discovering and nurturing talents for the benefit of the state,” he added.
