NWFL Picks Port Harcourt For 2026 Super Six Tournament

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), has confirmed Port Harcourt as the host city for the 2026 Premiership Super Six, the first time the title-deciding competition will be staged in Rivers State.

The league announced that the tournament will run from June 5 to June 14, 2026, with six clubs battling for the crown at the close of the 2025/26 campaign.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the decision followed the Rivers State Government’s backing of women’s football and its successful hosting of the league’s Annual General Assembly last year.

The competition will feature the top three teams from Group A and Group B of the regular season in a round-robin format. Each side is expected to play five matches across nine days.

Defending champions Bayelsa Queens will headline the tournament alongside Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and first-time qualifiers Abia Angels.

The NWFL has witnessed four different winners in the last five editions of the Premiership. Rivers Angels lifted the trophy in 2021, Bayelsa Queens won in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens emerged champions in 2023, while Edo Queens claimed the title in 2024.

According to the organisers, the Super Six will also determine Nigeria’s representative at the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and the 2027 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.

Teams are expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on June 5 for the draw ceremony and pre-match meeting.

Matchdays have been fixed for June 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14, with rest days scheduled in between before the competition ends with the trophy presentation ceremony.
