Basic Feeding Has Become Luxury – Ruth Kadiri Laments Rising Cost Of Living
Popular Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri, has voiced concern over the growing cost of living in Nigeria, saying many families are struggling to meet basic feeding needs as food prices continue to rise.
Naija News reports that Kadiri shared her concerns in a video posted on her Instagram page on Wednesday, where she spoke about the hardship many Nigerians are facing due to the country’s economic situation.
According to her, the rising cost of food and other essentials has become a heavy burden on households and is affecting the emotional well-being of many people.
The actress said she rarely complains about challenges but admitted that recent events have left her deeply troubled.
She noted that if people who are financially comfortable are beginning to feel the pressure of the economy, the situation could be much worse for low-income earners trying to survive on modest salaries.
She said, “As a human being, I’m not known for complaining. But you see, the past couple of days have been so troubling for me. Because if somebody like me can start to feel the brunt of the heaviness of being a human being, I wonder what other people are going through.
“The cost of tomatoes is now so high. Like, somebody will use ₦5,000 to buy pepper and tomato. Like, ₦5,000. While somebody else out there is probably earning 25, 30, 40, ₦50,000. But you are only using 5,000 to buy tomatoes and peppers. A basket of tomatoes, we don’t even want to say that. You know, the cost of feeding, which is basic in Nigeria, is now so high.”
