Nigeria Thrash Senegal 3-0 As Super Falcons Step Up WAFCON Preparations
The Super Falcons of Nigeria turned on the style in the second half to beat Senegal 3-0 in their second international friendly at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday, continuing their build-up to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The nine-time African champions dominated large spells of the game but were frustrated before the break by a stubborn Senegal side.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade nearly created an early breakthrough from a first-minute set-piece, while Joy Omewa and Gift Monday kept the visitors under constant pressure.
Nigeria came closest in the 15th minute when Omewa rounded the goalkeeper but saw her effort crash against the woodwork.
Despite their superiority, the Super Falcons went into the interval without a goal. That changed just three minutes after the restart when Shukurat Oladipo whipped in a precise cross and Omewa rose to head home the opener in the 48th minute.
The goal lifted the hosts, who quickly took control of the match. Seven minutes later, Omewa struck again, powering through Senegal’s defence before calmly finishing to double Nigeria’s advantage.
Senegal struggled to contain the Falcons’ attacking threat as the home side continued to dictate proceedings. Their dominance was rewarded with a third goal in the 66th minute.
Ajibade surged forward from midfield and picked out substitute Asisat Oshoala, who had replaced Omewa, and the experienced striker made no mistake with the finish.
Nigeria comfortably saw out the remainder of the game, preserving a clean sheet and ensuring a convincing victory in front of their supporters.
Naija News reports that this win is coming days after the Super Falcons defeated Senegal 2-1 in the first-leg of the two-legged international friendly on June 5, 2026.
