My Life Under Threat – Nasarawa Labour Party Factional Chairman Cries Out

A factional chairman of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State, Alexander Ombugu, has raised the alarm over an alleged threat to his life, calling on security agencies to provide him with protection and investigate the matter.

Ombugu made the allegation on Saturday while speaking with journalists in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

He said the alleged threat might not be unconnected with his position on issues that followed the party’s recently concluded primary elections in the state.

The LP chieftain, however, declined to name those he suspected to be behind the alleged threat, saying such information would be made available to security agencies to avoid jeopardising the investigation.

He appealed to relevant security agencies in the state to urgently intervene, provide him with adequate protection and carry out a proper probe into the development.

Ombugu said his current ordeal was linked to his insistence on what he described as the truth in the internal affairs of the Labour Party in the state.

According to him, some persons within and outside the party were uncomfortable with his position on the issues affecting the party.

He said, “The whole issue is because I am standing by the truth, and some people within and outside the party are not happy about it.

“Today, my wife returned from where she went to buy something and was crying profusely. When I asked what had happened, she informed me that rumours that I will soon be attacked have already been spread everywhere.

“I tried to plead with her to calm down, but she continued crying, probably because of how she received the information.

“The fact is that I have not done anything wrong to anyone since I joined active politics. In carrying out my duties, I have always followed the laws guarding the Labour Party and our dear country, Nigeria.

“Therefore, I am appealing to the security agencies for adequate security coverage, and that a proper investigation into this matter should be carried out so that my life can be protected.”

Naija News understands that Ombugu had, at a recent press briefing in Lafia, called on stakeholders of the Labour Party in Nasarawa State to close ranks and resolve the internal disputes within the party.

He also extended what he described as a hand of fellowship to all factions in the party, warning that persistent disagreement among members could weaken the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections.

The LP chieftain said it was important for members to put aside their differences and begin serious reconciliation before full political activities for the next general elections commence.

Ombugu, who claimed to be the state chairman of the party recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, said it remained his responsibility to work towards uniting members and strengthening the party ahead of the polls.

He said he was ready to meet with leaders, stakeholders and groups within the party in order to resolve all pending issues.

“As Chairman of the party, I am ready to discuss extensively with any leader, stakeholder or group in the party to enable us to resolve all outstanding issues before the 2027 political activities will fully commence,” he said.

Ombugu maintained that peace and unity remained necessary if the Labour Party hoped to make a meaningful impact in Nasarawa State during the next election cycle.
