Labour Party Summons NEC Meeting To Ratify Primary Results

The Labour Party (LP) has fixed June 11 for a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to ratify the results of its recently concluded primary elections.

Naija News reports that the party said the meeting would also approve the submission of its candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.

Asogwa said the NEC meeting was convened in line with Article 28 of the party’s 2026 Constitution.

He said statutory NEC members, candidates who emerged from the primaries, party organs, INEC representatives, members of the media and other stakeholders are expected to attend.

“The meeting is expected to ratify the results of the party’s primary elections conducted across the country and approve the submission of candidates that emerged from the exercise to INEC in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution,” he said.

The party also said Certificates of Return would be presented to successful candidates after the NEC ratifies the primary results.

“The party also wishes to inform all successful candidates from the primaries that the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives shall commence immediately after the ratification of the primary election results by the NEC,” Asogwa stated.

Asogwa described the meeting as a major step in the LP’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

He said it would be the first NEC meeting since the party’s recent national convention and the emergence of candidates for the polls.

“The Labour Party further reiterates that this meeting, being the first NEC session following its recent successful National Convention and the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections, is of strategic importance to the party’s overall preparations and mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections,” the statement concluded.
