Nasarawa Lawmaker Quits APC Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Jeremiah Umaru, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what he described as troubling developments in the party’s recently concluded primary elections.

Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The letter, dated May 28, 2026, stated that the conduct of the primaries had left him disillusioned and unable to continue his political journey within the ruling party.

Naija News reports that in the resignation letter, Umaru expressed concern over what he called the gradual erosion of fairness, transparency, justice and internal democracy in the APC.

According to him, those values formed the foundation on which many members joined the party and worked for its growth over the years.

He said events surrounding the primary elections had weakened his confidence in the party’s commitment to credible and inclusive democratic practices.

The lawmaker noted that, as a loyal member who had invested time, effort and resources in building the party, it was painful to watch what he described as the increasing prevalence of imposition, manipulation and disregard for the collective wishes of members.

Umaru said the outcome and conduct of the primaries convinced him that the APC was drifting away from the principles that once earned the confidence of its supporters.

He said the party’s internal process no longer reflected the democratic ideals that should guide political participation.

“I can no longer, in good conscience, remain part of a system that fails to uphold fairness, credibility, and respect for the aspirations of dedicated members,” he stated.

The federal lawmaker maintained that his decision to leave the APC was based on principle and his conviction that internal democracy must remain central to party politics.

Despite his resignation, Umaru expressed gratitude to party members, leaders and political associates with whom he worked during his time in the APC.

He also appreciated the opportunities and experiences he gained while serving under the party’s platform.

The lawmaker wished well to members who, according to him, remain committed to advancing democratic ideals within the ruling party.
