Tottenham Confirm Signing Of Former Liverpool Captain Andy Robertson

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the signing of Scotland left-back and former Liverpool vice-captain Andy Robertson on a free transfer.

Andy Robertson will officially join Spurs on July 1 after the expiration of his contract at Liverpool, bringing an end to a trophy-laden nine-year spell at Anfield.

Announcing the deal, Tottenham Sporting Director Johan Lange hailed Robertson as one of the finest full-backs the Premier League has produced.

“We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club,” he said.

“First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back, one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will improve our squad.

“In addition, his quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for – and won, major honours.

“Andy’s professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the Club.

“We are excited for Andy’s new chapter with us and look forward to having him here after the World Cup.”

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi also welcomed the arrival of the Scotland skipper.

“Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team,” the coach said.

“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.

“I can’t wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.”

Robertson arrives in north London with one of the most decorated CVs in English football. Since joining Liverpool from Hull City in 2017, the 32-year-old helped the Reds win every major trophy available, including two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Community Shield.

His rise to the top began with Queen’s Park before spells at Dundee United and Hull City. Along the way, he earned promotion to the Premier League and established himself as one of the most consistent left-backs of his generation.

Robertson has captained Scotland national football team since 2018, leading the nation to the UEFA European Championships in 2020 and 2024, as well as securing qualification for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, Scotland’s first appearance at the tournament in the 21st century.
