Accord Party Announces Imumolen As 2027 Presidential Candidate
A faction of the Accord Party has picked Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to a statement on Thursday by the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Muktar Abdullah, Prof. Imumolen emerged as its presidential candidate following a consensus vote at the party’s National Presidential Primary Election held in Lagos.
He added that Imumolen enjoys the total support of all party members, stakeholders and supporters.
The statement read, “In a definitive bid to chart a new, progressive path for our great nation ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections, the Accord Party has officially elected Prof. Christopher Imumolen as its presidential candidate.
“Prof. Imumolen was elected via a consensus vote, reflecting unified party support across national, regional, and generational lines during the party’s National Presidential Primary Election held in Lagos.
“The convention drew passionate delegates from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, who gathered to select the party’s standard-bearer.
“His candidacy enjoys immense structural backing, driven significantly by a strong representation from the party’s vibrant younger demographic, who view him as the face of modern Nigerian leadership. As the youngest presidential candidate to contest in the 2023 election cycle, Prof. Imumolen joins the 2027 race with enhanced experience, solidified grassroots structures, and unyielding national appeal.
“He is a high-capacity leader, an accomplished entrepreneur, and a renowned philanthropist, possessing the visionary skills required to fix Nigeria’s systemic issues and place the country on the right track toward prosperity.”
Abdullah said the Accord Party will soon unveil a comprehensive socio-economic agenda to address the nation’s challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Imumolen thanked delegates for their support and pledged to lead an inclusive, issue-driven campaign.
“Today, what we have done here is to have our primaries for the presidential candidate, which have been successfully conducted. I have rightfully emerged as the candidate for Accord. The list will now be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, and we await their official publication of the candidates later this September,” he said.
He promised that if elected in 2027, an Accord-led Federal Government would directly confront the devastating scourge of unemployment, tackle pervasive insecurity, and structurally revamp the economic architecture of the country to lift millions out of poverty.
“The Accord Party calls on all well-meaning Nigerians, particularly youths and professionals, to join hands with the authentic candidate of the party as we build a nation that works for everyone,” he added.
Naija News recalls that earlier, a faction of the Accord Party had announced Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
However, the national leadership of the Accord Party on Wednesday dismissed reports that Olawepo-Hashim is its presidential candidate.
The party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbuden, in a statement issued in Abuja, clarified that Accord did not conduct the presidential primary in which Olawepo-Hashim emerged.
