Osun Accord Party Chairman Shot In Late-Night Attack

The Chairman of the Accord Party (AP) in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, popularly known as Baba Isila, is battling for his life after suspected gunmen attacked him and his associates in Osogbo.

The incident reportedly occurred around 9:50pm on Wednesday near the Community Bank axis of the MDS area.

According to Sahara Reporters, witnesses said the gunmen opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and his friends.

One of the occupants said the attackers chased the vehicle and fired repeatedly at them.

“We were coming from the MDS area, Osogbo, last night at about 9:50pm, and all of a sudden, the gun-wielding men chased and released a volley of bullets on all of us in the car,” he said.

He added that they managed to escape to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters for protection before the attackers fled.

Ajibola, who sustained serious injuries, was later rushed to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

He was said to be on the danger list as of the time of filing this report.

Reacting to the incident, the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, condemned the attack and called for a thorough investigation.

It is an unfortunate incident which should not be allowed to go uninvestigated. The culprits must be brought to book,” Alimi said.

He urged the police to investigate the matter professionally and without bias.

“We are therefore calling on the police to carry out their investigation, professionally, without fear or favour in unearthing the masterminds of the attack, which, from all available indices, has elements of political colourations,” he added.
