Crisis Hits Kwara PDP As Two Gov Candidates Emerge
A leadership crisis has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State following the emergence of two factional governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
Naija News reports that the faction loyal to former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and aligned with the Nyesom Wike-backed bloc, had earlier announced Engineer Kale Kawu Agaka as its governorship candidate through consensus.
However, Alhaji Ladi Hassan has now emerged as the governorship candidate of the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP in the state.
Reacting to the development, the Kwara PDP Secretary, Kayode Abdulrahman, alleged that the factional candidate was sponsored by non-PDP members to destabilise the party.
He said Hassan had earlier obtained the PDP nomination form and participated in the party’s governorship primary, where he lost.
“For him to have gone to emerge as a governorship candidate in the fake PDP that’s not recognized by the INEC speaks volumes. He must have been sponsored by people outside our party. But I assure you they can’t succeed,” Abdulrahman said.
When contacted, Hassan confirmed that he emerged as the governorship candidate of the Turaki-led faction. He said his candidacy was affirmed during the faction’s primary held in Abuja.
“Our primary took place in Abuja, and I emerged through affirmation. That was what happened,” he said.
Naija News understands that the split could weaken the PDP’s chances in Kwara State.
