‘They Want Jonathan To Help Carry Their Coffin’ – Shehu Sani Blasts PDP Faction
Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has criticised moves by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to draft former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race.
Sani described the effort as belated and politically motivated.
He made the remark in a post on his 𝕏 handle on Monday while reacting to the adoption of Jonathan as the presidential candidate of a PDP faction ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former lawmaker said those now promoting Jonathan’s candidacy failed to back him when the PDP was in a stronger position.
According to him, the party had a better chance of mounting a serious electoral challenge in 2023.
“If they actually wanted GEJ, they should have fielded him in 2023 when the party was relatively alive and in good shape,” Sani wrote.
Sani argued that the current move was less about giving Jonathan a realistic chance to return to power.
He said it appeared to be an attempt to use the former President’s political stature to revive a weakened platform.
“They just now want him to help them carry the coffin,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged Jonathan to publicly distance himself from reports linking him to a presidential ticket allegedly being promoted by a political group.
Naija News reports that Keyamo made the call in a statement posted on his 𝕏 handle.
He described the development as a “bizarre comedy” and criticised those behind it for allegedly dragging the former President into what he called a political charade.
The minister said it was inappropriate for individuals who were not recognised as political actors to claim they had offered Jonathan a presidential ticket.
