Assailants Kill Renowned Islamic Scholar In Kwara

A renowned Islamic scholar has been killed by unidentified assailants in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Security sources told Zagagola Makama that the incident occurred around 1:10 am on May 30 at Ilesha-Baruba, where the attackers reportedly invaded the scholar’s residence.

The motive for the attack had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.

Following the incident, local vigilantes and residents reportedly pursued the fleeing assailants.

Naija News understands two of the suspects were said to have been neutralised during the chase.

Troops of 244 Battalion, police operatives and vigilante groups later deployed to the area and intensified patrols across the community.

Security sources said the deployment was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and stopping any possible reprisal attacks.

Security agencies have commenced investigation into the killing, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the attack.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and provide credible information to support ongoing security operations in the area.
