PSG, Aston Villa To Clash In 2026 UEFA Super Cup
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Aston Villa will face each other in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup after both clubs emerged as winners of Europe’s two major club competitions this season.
UEFA confirmed on Saturday that the match would take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria.
The fixture will see back-to-back Champions League winners PSG take on Europa League champions Aston Villa in what is expected to be one of the major curtain-raisers of the new European season.
Naija News reports that PSG secured their place in the Super Cup after successfully defending their Champions League title with a dramatic victory over Arsenal in Saturday’s final.
The French giants defeated Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after the game ended 1-1 following extra time.
Under Spanish manager, Luis Enrique, PSG have continued to strengthen their reputation as Europe’s dominant side, winning the Champions League in consecutive seasons.
Their latest success further confirmed their rise as one of the strongest teams on the continent, with the club now preparing for another Super Cup appearance.
Aston Villa, on the other hand, qualified for the Super Cup after winning the Europa League.
The Premier League side defeated Freiburg 3-0 in the final on May 20 to claim their first major European honour since 1982.
The success marked another major achievement for manager Unai Emery, who has built a strong reputation for his work in European competitions.
Emery has transformed Villa into serious continental contenders, guiding the club from Premier League hopefuls to European champions.
The 2026 UEFA Super Cup will be played at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg.
The competition traditionally brings together the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League, serving as an early-season contest between two of Europe’s strongest sides.
For PSG, the match offers another chance to add to their growing list of European honours, while Aston Villa will be looking to make a strong statement against the Champions League holders.
UEFA also highlighted the past Super Cup records of both teams ahead of the 2026 edition.
According to UEFA, “Paris lifted the UEFA Super Cup in 2025, coming from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham on penalties, though they lost over two legs against Juventus in their first appearance in 1996.
“Aston Villa won their only previous UEFA Super Cup over two legs in 1982, seeing off Barcelona.”
The meeting in Salzburg will therefore carry extra significance, with both teams having previously tasted success in the competition.
The Super Cup will provide an early test for both clubs ahead of the new season.
PSG will enter the match as Champions League winners and one of Europe’s most feared teams, while Aston Villa will hope to prove that their Europa League success was not a one-off achievement.
