My Worth Is Determined By God – Yul Edochie Speaks On AMVCA Snub

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has said he does not see the need for an Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award to prove his talent as an actor.

Naija News reports that he spoke during an appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, where he reacted to talks about not winning an AMVCA award. According to him, awards given by a small group of people cannot decide his value in the movie industry.

Edochie said he strongly believes in his acting ability and claimed that some of the performances he delivered years ago are still difficult for other actors to match today.

While speaking about his place in Nollywood, the actor said he sees himself as one of the best in the industry. He explained that he avoids calling himself the greatest because of the respect he has for his father, Pete Edochie.

The actor also made it clear that he has no issues with the organisers of the AMVCA and does not feel pressured by their choices. He said he has never gone online to complain about not receiving nominations or awards because he is not bothered about their decisions.

Edochie stated that his main concern is continuing to give strong performances whenever he is featured in movies. According to him, he always puts in his best effort and leaves the rest for viewers and critics to decide.

He added that people’s opinions or personal feelings towards him do not affect his mindset. The actor said he remains focused on making progress and improving himself in his career.

He said: “Performances that I have dropped four, five, six years ago no actor has been able to replicate it till date. I am one of the greatest. So I will not wait until AMVCA calls me. Call anybody you want to call. I do not have any problem with them. Have you seen me rant on social media before?

“A group of people gathered to say this is who they are giving to. I am not bothered. Anywhere I found myself I will keep doing well. Any movie you keep me, I will do my best and drop a fantastic performance. Your like or attitude towards me does not concern me. I have fans from all over the world. My worth is not determined by you. My worth is determined by God. It is determined by the amount of work that I put in and the viewers.”
