Utaka Tells Osimhen What To Do Amid Interest From Real Madrid
Former Super Eagles winger John Utaka has urged Victor Osimhen to consider a move to Real Madrid if José Mourinho lands the Los Blancos job and asks for the Nigerian striker.
Osimhen is wrapping up his second season at Galatasaray after playing a key role in the club’s 26th league title triumph.
The forward has scored 15 goals and provided five assists in 22 league appearances this season, further boosting his reputation as one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Transfer speculation around the 25-year-old has refused to fade, with interest surfacing in each of the last three summer windows.
Fresh reports from Spain suggest Mourinho, currently in charge of Benfica, is in talks with Real Madrid over a possible return to the Santiago Bernabéu.
The Portuguese coach is seen as a candidate capable of restoring calm in the dressing room following a turbulent campaign under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa.
A major squad rebuild could force Madrid to hunt for a new centre-forward, and Utaka believes Osimhen would be an ideal fit under Mourinho.
“If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit,” Utaka said via Brila.
Mourinho has tracked Osimhen’s progress for years. During the striker’s time at Napoli, the pair met in Serie A when Mourinho managed AS Roma. The coach has previously likened the Nigerian to Didier Drogba, though he has also criticised aspects of his game.
Osimhen’s future remains uncertain, with Barcelona also monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Catalan club reportedly see him as a possible alternative to Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, whose valuation is said to be around €200m.
Galatasaray, however, are reluctant to sell and are believed to have placed a €150m price tag on the striker as they brace for growing interest.
