Jérémy Doku Fires Title Warning As Man City Set To Face Arsenal
Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku says the Premier League title race is firmly in the club’s hands after a commanding 3-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
City cut the gap at the top to six points with a game in hand and now turn their attention to a decisive clash with Arsenal on Sunday.
“Obviously, three points here, in a tough game, we did very well. We needed those three points,” Doku told Man City’s official website.
“So we’re just going to keep on going, keep on going. We know that we still have everything in our hands. We’re going to recover well and we look forward to the game on Sunday.
“Coming here is not easy, playing here against Chelsea in their stadium is not easy. We just had to keep on going.
“We adapted our pressing a bit and more runs in behind, that opens more spaces. The way we started the second half also put a lot of pressure on them. In those moments when you can score it helps a lot.”
City’s trip to the Etihad against Arsenal is now being framed as a potential title decider. Victory would swing momentum sharply towards the defending champions, while defeat would hand control back to the Gunners.
Doku said, “For me, how many games are left? Six or something. I feel like if you win it’s a big punch towards them if you lose this game it’s in their hands and we have to wait for them to lose.
“If we win it’s in our hands and I prefer to have it in my hands.
“We did it already but they will come with a hunger. They don’t want to just give it to us. We have to go and take it but trust me we will be well prepared.”
A win for Mikel Arteta’s side would stretch their lead to nine points, even with City holding a game in hand. That scenario would leave the champions needing Arsenal to slip up at least twice while remaining flawless themselves.
