Mohamed Salah Says Goodbye To Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has confirmed he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season, bringing an end to a glittering nine-year stay at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah, 33, announced his decision in a video shared on social media, before the club followed up with an official statement confirming an agreement had been reached.

“Unfortunately the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell,” Salah said.

“I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.”

Salah, who joined the Reds from AS Roma in June 2017, signed a new two-year contract as recently as April 2025. That deal was due to run until 2027, but both parties have now agreed to bring his departure forward by a year.

Reflecting on his time on Merseyside, the Egypt international spoke of a deep connection with the club and its supporters.

He said, “I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would become part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club. It’s a passion. It’s a history. It’s a spirit.

“I can’t explain it in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies and we fought together through the hardest time in our lives.”

Liverpool confirmed Salah will depart at the end of the 2025-2026 season, closing what the club described as a “remarkable nine-year chapter”.

The club said the forward chose to make his decision public early out of respect for supporters and to provide clarity over his future.

Since arriving from Roma, Salah has cemented his place among Liverpool’s all-time greats. He has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, placing him third on the club’s all-time scoring list, while also winning the Premier League Golden Boot four times.

His honours at Anfield include two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups and the FA Community Shield.

Despite the announcement, Liverpool say Salah remains fully focused on finishing the current campaign strongly, with tributes and celebrations of his legacy expected later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.
