Achraf Hakimi Set For Trial Over Rape Allegation

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has confirmed he will face trial following an allegation of rape made against him in France.

The Moroccan international, who has consistently denied the claim, said he is prepared to contest the case in court and clear his name.

The allegation dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman filed a complaint accusing Hakimi of raping her at his home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. According to French media reports, the pair had connected via social media before she visited his residence late on 24 February.

The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened a preliminary investigation in March 2023. A formal indictment followed days later.

In August 2025, prosecutors in Nanterre requested that the case be referred to a criminal court. On Tuesday, judicial sources confirmed that the investigating judge had decided to proceed to trial, bringing the investigative phase to a close.

Hakimi, 27, responded in a statement posted on 𝕏, saying: “Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false.

“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

No date has been set for the trial yet.

Hakimi was born in Spain but represents Morocco internationally. He currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain and has made 194 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions. Last season, he helped the club secure both the league title and the UEFA Champions League crown.

His performances were recognised at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Paris, where he was named in the FIFPRO Men’s World Team of the Year.

On the international stage, Hakimi played a pivotal role in Morocco’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making them the first African nation to reach that stage of the competition.

Despite the legal proceedings hanging over him, Hakimi was included in PSG’s squad for their Champions League knockout round play-off second leg against Monaco.
