NFF Reacts To Eric Chelle’s 19-Point Demands As Contract Talks Loom

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has admitted it was taken aback by a raft of fresh requests submitted by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, insisting that several of the provisions he is seeking are already in place.

Eric Chelle, who still has a year left on his existing contract, reportedly tabled a detailed 19-point proposal last week outlining the conditions under which he would continue in charge of the national team. The demands have stirred debate within Nigerian football circles, particularly in light of the economic realities facing the sport.

Among the headline requests is a monthly salary of $130,000. The coach is also understood to have asked for a private SUV with a chauffeur and dedicated security, citing concerns over mobility and personal safety.

In addition, Chelle reportedly wants accommodation with uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply and a fully furnished office fitted with a projector for tactical sessions, alongside reliable internet access to support modern coaching operations.

But the federation has moved swiftly to counter suggestions that the coach is without basic provisions.

Speaking to The Guardian, NFF Secretary General Dr Mohammed Sanusi dismissed claims that Chelle lacks essential facilities.

“Chelle has accommodation, a car and a driver,” Sanusi said.

While he declined to go into detail regarding the other requests, sources within the federation confirmed that the proposals are under internal review. The salary increment in particular is said to be a sticking point.

“Let us not forget that Chelle still has one year left on his current contract. These are fresh demands to be considered for renewal, which remains subject to debate, especially with these terms,” a source close to the NFF told The Guardian.

“This is for the technical committee to review before presenting to the board for approval.”

The matter is expected to be discussed at technical committee level before any recommendation is made to the NFF board. With the Super Eagles facing crucial fixtures later in the year, administrators are keen to resolve the situation without creating distractions around the team.

There are also indications that the federation is assessing options for coaching positions across various national teams, although no formal decision has been announced.
