It Is Unfortunate That We Have Failed To Get A Female President In Nigeria – Buhari’s Ex Chief Of Staff, Gambari

The former Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari, has condemned the system which recruits politicians into leadership positions.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Monday, he stated that governance is not rocket science, adding that Nigeria must return to its roots.

He warned that if Nigeria fails to return to its fundamentals, the country would fail to achieve the results it requires.

Gambari questioned the reason behind the failure to elect women into leadership positions.

According to him, “Governance is not rocket science but we have to go back to the fundamentals how people got to where they are.

“And one of the things that agitate my mind is the political parties on our country and the system of recruiting leadership through the electoral process.

“The process of identifying candidates for elective office. If we don’t do that, I’m afraid we will not get the kind of result we require.

“To excite the younger people, they have to know that there is differences between party A and party B. They have to excite them about the vision for the future.

“The future that will be better for them, that will recognise their talents and a future where youths and gender are not disadvantaged.

“It is unfortunate that as we speak, we have not managed in Nigeria to get a female governor, Vice President or even the president.”
