‘Yahoo Boy’ Arrested For Killing Friend Over $1,000 Dispute In Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 28‑year‑old man suspected of internet fraud for allegedly killing his friend following a disagreement over a $1,000 transaction.

The incident occurred on January 21, 2026, in the Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, the police confirmed.

Police Public Relations Officer Mr Bright Edafe said the suspect, identified as Mr Oghenegare, was apprehended and is currently in custody at the State Command Headquarters, Asaba, over the death of Mr Courage, who was reportedly his childhood friend.

According to Edafe, both men were involved in internet fraud (Yahoo Yahoo) and had a disagreement linked to a $1,000 online transaction.

“The suspect confronted the deceased and hit him on the head in the ensuing fight,” Edafe said. The victim later succumbed to the injury sustained in the altercation.

In a video obtained by police, Oghenegare admitted that he and the deceased were close friends, but things turned sour when Courage allegedly “logged” him out of the process of the disputed transaction.

Oghenegare said the victim had prevented him from completing the deal, triggering the confrontation that led to the fatal blow.

Edafe lamented the growing number of murder cases in the state, which he linked to temper issues, drug abuse, and easily avoidable conflicts.

“We are worried about the increasing rate of murder cases being recorded in the state due to hot temper, drug abuse and issues that could be resolved,” Edafe said.

He urged residents to shun violence and seek lawful ways of resolving disputes.

The Delta State Police Command has indicated that a full investigation is underway and that the suspect will be charged appropriately as the case progresses.
