Dismissed Police Officer Remanded Over Delta Suspect’s Killing

A dismissed police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, and members of his team have been remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun, Delta State.

Naija News gathered that Usman and the other officers were remanded on Monday, June 1, after being arraigned over the killing, which sparked nationwide outrage.

The exact charges filed against the officers could not be confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

The Inspector-General of Police had in April approved the dismissal and prosecution of Usman and other officers involved in the fatal shooting.

Ogidi was killed on April 26, 2026, in Effurun.

He was allegedly shot dead by Usman, who was attached to the Area Command in Effurun, despite being handcuffed and pleading for his life in a viral video.

The deceased suspect was reportedly arrested while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

Police operatives were deployed to the scene after receiving credible intelligence from members of the public.

However, Usman, who led the team, allegedly acted in violation of established police rules.

Before he was shot, Ogidi was seen in a viral video crying and promising to lead officers to a location in Sapele.

There were allegations that he was killed because he knew too much about Usman’s past operations in the Jesse and Sapele axis.
