Super Falcons Set For Four-Nation Tournament In Ivory Coast Ahead Of WAFCON 2026

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will step up preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a competitive four-nation West African tournament scheduled to take place in Abidjan later this month.

The nine-time African champions have confirmed their participation in the invitational competition organised by the West African Football Union B. The tournament will run from February 27 to March 7, 2026, with Ivory Coast playing host.

Nigeria will face three familiar opponents in the mini-tournament, as hosts Ivory Coast are joined by Ghana and Senegal. All four teams have already secured qualification for WAFCON 2026, making the event a valuable final test before the continental finals.

The timing of the competition is seen as ideal, with the tournament ending just ten days before the start of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The finals are scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026.

Head coach Justine Madugu is understood to have submitted a provisional squad list ahead of the trip to Abidjan, with an official announcement expected through the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the coming days.

At WAFCON 2026, the Super Falcons will compete in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt and debutants Malawi.

The fixture against Zambia is expected to draw attention, renewing a growing rivalry between both sides following Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 win over the Copper Queens at the last tournament, which ended with a dramatic final win over hosts Morocco.

Egypt return to the WAFCON following the expansion of the competition to 16 teams, while Malawi will be making their first-ever appearance at the finals.

The 2026 tournament will be staged across four venues in Rabat, Casablanca and Fez. Beyond continental glory, the stakes are high, as the four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Nigeria will head into the championship as the most successful nation in the history of the competition, having lifted the trophy a record ten times, and will be aiming to add to that legacy when the action begins in Morocco.
