Manchester United Appoint Former Player As New Manager
Michael Carrick has been appointed caretaker manager of Manchester United, pending an official announcement by the club.
Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Monday, revealing that a verbal agreement had been in place since the previous day and that all details, including Carrick’s backroom staff, had now been finalised.
“Michael Carrick signs in as new Manchester United caretaker manager until the end of the season. Verbal agreement since yesterday, now sorted in all details + backroom staff also. #MUFC official announcement to follow next,” Romano wrote.
Carrick, a former United midfielder and ex-coach, is expected to take charge immediately as the club seeks to stabilise its campaign and push for a strong finish to the season following recent managerial changes.
According to reports, former England assistant manager Steve Holland will be part of Michael Carrick’s backroom staff at Manchester United. Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans and Travis Binnion will also be on the staff. Darren Fletcher was offered the chance to be part of Michael Carrick’s staff at Manchester United but he declined and wants to stick with the under 18s.
The club is yet to issue an official statement confirming the appointment.
