Akor Adams Sets Sights On AFCON Glory As Super Eagles Prepare For Morocco Clash
Akor Adams insists Nigeria are thinking only about lifting the trophy as the Super Eagles prepare for a daunting Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final against hosts Morocco in Rabat on Wednesday.
Nigeria booked their place in the last four with a commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria at the weekend, continuing a flawless run at the tournament.
Morocco, chasing success on home soil, also progressed with a 2-0 win against Cameroon to set up a heavyweight clash in the Moroccan capital.
The Super Eagles have been one of the standout sides of the competition, winning every match so far and racking up 14 goals. Adams has been central to that charge, directly contributing to four goals with two strikes and two assists.
“We have just one objective, to win. To win everything,” Adams told OmaSportsTV.
“That’s the only objective, and we aim as high as possible, and I don’t think that’s bigger than us. We are humble, of course, but we know what we are capable of doing as the Super Eagles, and we work hard, go back, try to get everyone as fit as possible and then see what happens.”
The striker’s rise with the national team has been swift. Since making his Super Eagles debut in October 2025 during the World Cup qualifiers, Adams announced himself with a goal in the 2-1 win over Lesotho. He has since registered four goals and two assists in nine appearances.
The 25-year-old winger who now plays for Sevilla has saved his best moments for the knockout stages of the AFCON. He was on target in Nigeria’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Mozambique and struck again in the quarter-final win against Algeria.
His first goal of the tournament came in the 70th minute against Mozambique, a strike that capped a dominant Nigerian performance. In that same match, Adams supplied the assist for Ademola Lookman’s opener and played a part in the second goal, which was finished by Victor Osimhen.
Adams’ fourth goal of the competition was arguably his most impressive. He showed composure as he dribbled past goalkeeper Luca Zidane to score, after a selfless pass from Osimhen that followed a perfectly timed, line-breaking ball from Alex Iwobi.
