FIFA Names Egyptian Referee For Nigeria Vs Benin World Cup Qualifier
FIFA has appointed Egyptian referee Omar Amin Mohamed Amin Mohamed to take charge of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Benin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on October 14.
Naija News gathered that Amin Mohamed will be assisted by his countrymen Mahmoud Ahmed Kamel Ahmed Aboulergal and Ali Ahmed Tawfik Teleb, with Moustafa Elbana Mahmoud Zakaria Mohamed serving as fourth official.
The referee assessor for the clash will be Seychelles’ Jason Joseph Damoo, while Ghana’s Prosper Harrison Addo has been designated as match commissioner. Xolile Nokuthula Vilakati from Eswatini will serve as security officer.
The game, scheduled for 5pm local time, comes at a pivotal moment for the Super Eagles, who are battling to keep their qualification hopes alive following FIFA’s recent sanction against South Africa.
Naija News reports that FIFA’s disciplinary committee ruled that South Africa fielded ineligible midfielder Teboho Mokoena in their 2-0 victory over Lesotho in March. The result was overturned and awarded 3-0 in favour of Lesotho, a decision that has reshaped Group C.
Benin and South Africa now sit joint top with 14 points apiece, while Nigeria and Rwanda are just behind on 11 points each. Lesotho, boosted by the ruling, have nine points, with Zimbabwe already eliminated on four.
