All Tuesday’s Champions League Results: Mourinho’s Stamford Bridge Return Ends In Defeat, Mbappe Hits Hat-trick

José Mourinho’s emotional homecoming to Stamford Bridge ended in disappointment on Tuesday night as Chelsea secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Benfica in their Champions League Matchday 2 encounter.

The decisive moment came in the 18th minute when Richard Ríos inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, handing Chelsea the advantage. For Mourinho, who famously guided the Blues to three Premier League titles and earned the nickname “The Special One,” it was a bittersweet reunion.

The London crowd gave the Portuguese manager a hero’s welcome, chanting his name in the early stages. Mourinho acknowledged the ovation with a wave, but minutes later those same fans were celebrating Chelsea’s breakthrough.

The result made Chelsea the only English club to register a win in Tuesday’s Champions League fixtures.

Elsewhere, Liverpool fell 1-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul after Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen converted a 16th-minute penalty.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 2-2 draw by Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt. Spurs looked set for defeat after Jens Petter Hauge’s double put the hosts 2-0 ahead, but Micky van de Ven sparked a response in the 68th minute before an 89th-minute own goal by Jostein Gundersen salvaged a point.

On the continent, Kylian Mbappé continued his remarkable scoring form with a hat trick as Real Madrid demolished Kairat Almaty 5-0. The French star opened with a penalty in the 25th minute and added two more in the second half, bringing his Champions League tally to 60 career goals.

It was his fourth hat trick in the competition, equalling Karim Benzema and leaving only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of him with eight each.

In Germany, Harry Kane’s blistering run showed no signs of slowing as the English striker struck twice in Bayern Munich’s 5-1 rout of Pafos. Kane has now netted 14 goals across domestic and European competitions this season.

Atlético Madrid also ran riot, with Antoine Griezmann scoring in a 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. The Frenchman’s strike etched his name deeper into club history as he became the first Atleti player to reach 200 goals.

Elsewhere, Igor Paixão’s brace inspired Marseille to a 4-0 demolition of Ajax, while Atalanta staged a second-half comeback to beat Club Brugge 2-1 through goals from Lazar Samardžić and Mario Pašalić.

Inter Milan extended their winning streak to five matches after a 3-0 triumph over Slavia Prague, thanks to a double from Lautaro Martínez and a finish from Denzel Dumfries.

Below are Tuesday’s Champions League Results (September 30, 2025):

Club Brugge 1-2 Atalanta
