Angel Di Maria Names Worst Coach Of All Time
Argentina winger, Angel Di Maria has named former Manchester United coach, Louis van Gaal as the worst coach he has ever worked with.
In a clip from his Netflix documentary ‘Breaking Down the Wall’, Di Maria said he would never get tired of saying Van Gaal is the worst coach he ever had.
He mentioned that his time at Manchester United was tough, emphasizing that he felt Van Gaal’s coaching style did not bring out the best in him.
Di Maria also recalled a specific match where they managed to win despite Van Gaal’s negative predictions about the game.
“Louis van Gaal is the worst coach I’ve ever had, and I will never get tired of saying that,” Angel Di Maria, who has retired from international football, said.
“We beat them with penalties even though he said we wouldn’t, because he knew everything.
“He ended up shoving his words in his…well, let’s just say he ate his words, to keep it polite.”
The 36-year-old Angel Di Maria has played for clubs like Rosario Central, Benfica, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus. But his spell at Manchester United is considered to be his worst.
Recall that Di María joined Manchester United from Real Madrid on August 26, 2014, for a transfer fee worth £59.7 million. He scored a couple of games in his first round of games at the club before he sustained an injury which contributed to his drop in form under coach Van Gaal.
Di María’s form at Old Trafford became so bad from October 2014 until the end of the 2014-2015 season that The Daily Telegraph described him as the worst signing of the season.
At the end of the season, the Argentine winger left United for PSG where he played for seven years before he joined Juventus in 2022 and then Benfica in 2023.
