INEC Officially Declares Winner Of Bayelsa Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, as the winner of the State governorship election held last Saturday.

Naija News reports that the Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, announced Diri as the winner of the poll at the collation centre of the election on Monday.

Diri polled 175,196 to defeat his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 110,108 votes, while the Labour Party polled 905 votes.

Despite Court Order, TUC, NLC Insist On Nationwide Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Monday directed its members to commence mobilisation for a nationwide strike over the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero.

Naija News reports that the organised labour directed its affiliates to implement the resolutions of the National Executive Council.

Addressing journalists on Monday, November 13, President of TUC, Festus Osifo, said the strike would remain until “government at all levels wake up to their responsibility.”

Tinubu Reacts As Uzodinma, Diri, Ododo Win Guber Elections

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and his Bayelsa State counterpart, Douye Diri, on their victories in the November 11 governorship elections.

In a statement on Monday issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelae, President Tinubu also felicitated with the Governor-elect of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.

The President commended the electorates in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa for their participation in the electoral process, affirming the resilience of democratic institutions and the power of the people in shaping the nation’s political landscape.

President Tinubu said the outcome of the elections reflects the wishes of the people, emphasizing that democracy thrives when voters reward competence, transparency, and good governance.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for working assiduously to create a level playing field for all contestants and the nation’s security agencies for maintaining law and order during the highly-anticipated elections.

I Will Continue To Be Governor To Sylva, Eradiri, All Bayelsans – Diri

The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has hailed his victory in the November 11 keenly-contested governorship election.

Addressing the state on Monday after his declaration in Yenogoa, the state capital, Diri said he would be the people of the state irrespective of their parties and ethnicity.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for discharging its responsibility very creditably and ensuring that the votes of the people count.

Diri also hailed President Bola Tinubu for allowing a conducive environment for a free, fair, credible election in Bayelsa state. He also appreciated the people of the state for electing him for another four-year term.

Atiku Sends Message To Diri On Re-election As Bayelsa Governor

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State on his re-election.

In a post via his X handle on Monday, Atiku hailed the Bayelsa governor on his hard-fought and well-won electoral victory and the people of Bayelsa state who stood firmly by their votes.

The former Vice President said Diri’s re-election reflected the confidence reposed in him by the people of Bayelsa based on his performance in his first term.

Tinubu Directs Withdrawal Of Police Personnel From VIPs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of Police personnel serving as security details for Very Important Personalities (VIPs).

The Minister of State for Police Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, made this known on Monday at a 2-Day Retreat for Directorate Cadre in the ministry held in Abuja.

She said the mandate of the ministry includes amending the Nigerian Police Act, developing and implementing a harmonized police reform report, and developing a community policing strategy for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Sulaiman-Ibrahim said her ministry will soon carry out the presidential directives, saying that they are not mere tasks but transformative initiatives that can enhance internal security in the country.

Kogi: Ododo Accepts Governorship Victory Amidst Call For Cancellation, Appreciates Tinubu

The Governor-elect in Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has appreciated his supporters and other stakeholders for their support in ensuring his victory at the governorship election held on Saturday.

Ododo expressed his appreciation in a statement on Monday titled ‘Thank You Message By Governor-elect Of Kogi State, Ododo Ahmed Usman.’

The governor-elect pledged that his administration would foster a united and prosperous community of Kogi citizens with a common destiny.

Ododo also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, for their support from the campaign through to his victory at the polls.

WAEC Adopts CBT For Conduct Of WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on Monday, announced that it has adopted the Computer-Based Test mode for the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examination.

According to WAEC, it has ditched the paper and pencil test model.
