The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has called for the cancellation of the off-cycle election.

Naija News understands that Anyanwu made the demand while addressing journalists at a press conference.

He stated that INEC and the security personnel did not fulfil their constitutional obligation of providing fair elections to the citizens of the state. He alleged that instead, the security agents protected INEC staff as the All Progressives Congress (APC) members rewrote results.

Recall that the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, is the candidate flagbearer for the APC seeking re-election into office.

INEC on Sunday declared him the winner of the Imo State Governorship Election. The Returning Officer for the state election, Professor Abayomi Fashina, said Uzodimma defeated his opponents in all Local Government Areas of the State, gathering a higher number of votes ahead of his PDP’s candidate, Anyanwu and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP).

Uzodimma polled a total of 540,308, while Anyanwu scored 71,503, and Achonu garnered 64,081.

Nothing Can Stop Me From Winning – Anyanwu

Earlier, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Imo State governorship election, Anyanwu, said nothing can stop him from winning the poll.

Anyanwu stated this on Saturday while speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote at Polling Unit 012, Ama Imo Community Primary School in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state, Naija News reports.

The National Secretary of the PDP said that if the election were largely peaceful, he would certainly emerge victorious at the end of the exercise.

Anyanwu said he was hopeful of victory, adding that the election is going well, but there is information that some ballot boxes were snatched in the Orlu zone.

The former lawmaker said he was not bothered about the snatching of ballots because INEC said that any places where there are incidences of violence the results won’t be counted.

He said, “Honestly, everything is getting calm. About in seven wards, ballot boxes have been carted away. That does not stop me from winning.

“INEC said that it will not count any votes in any place where there were records of violence. If the election is free and credible, I will win the elections.

“I am not bothered about the snatching of ballots because INEC said that any places where there are incidences of violence would not be counted.”
