The number of females who have expressed interest in succeeding the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has risen to three, with the entry of a paediatrician, Angela Aburime-Asom.

Naija News learnt that Aburime-Asom also received the nod of top Labour Party (LP) chieftains in the state to vie for the party’s governorship ticket, as the state chairman, Kelly Ogbaloi, promised the aspirants a level playing ground.

Receiving the medical doctor and her supporters, Ogbaloi restated the readiness of the party to take over the reins of government next year from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing journalists, the female gubernatorial aspirant expressed satisfaction with the reception the LP state executive accorded her and her entourage, stating that her letter of intent was received and approved by the state party hierarchy.

She also expressed optimism in winning the party’s primary election to become the flag bearer in the 2024 state election.

She said, “I am excited with the reception I got at the party secretariat. It shows that the party is the one to beat next year. I have submitted my letter of intent, and hopefully, I will win the primaries and be the party’s flag bearer at the election.”

Aburime-Asom hails from the Edo Central senatorial district, which is highly favoured to produce the next state governor.
