Spwore Reacts As Court Grants Godwin Emefiele Bail

The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to the release of the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

It was reported that Justice Olukayode Adeniyi of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), sitting in Maitama on Wednesday, granted Emefiele bail.

Justice Adeniyi ordered the federal government to release Emefiele to his lawyers and stated that there must be an end to detention without trial.

The presiding judge also instructed lawyers of the former CBN Governor to deposit his passport in court and to produce him in court on November 15, when he is scheduled to be arraigned before another judge.

Reacting to Emefiele’s release on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Sowore said that Bola Tinubu’s government deliberately never charged the former CBN boss for any serious offence.

“Case closed! They’ve extorted him enough and extinguished the case. They never deliberately charged @GodwinIEmefiele for any serious offence anyways,” he wrote.

Recall that Emefiele was suspended by President Bola Tinubu on June 9 and subsequently arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) and charged with illegal possession of firearms and sponsoring terrorism.

In late October, Emefiele briefly regained his freedom after being released by the DSS and was picked up immediately by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
