Anambra School Reveals Identity Of Three Students Killed By Thunderstorm While Playing Ball

Tansi International College, Awka, Anambra State has revealed the names of its three students who lost their lives after they were struck by lightning last week.

It would be recalled that three students were reported to have lost their lives while playing football on the school field.

Naija News learnt that the incident happened late Saturday during rainfall which was accompanied by breeze and thunderstorms.

An eyewitness who spoke on the matter revealed that the students were practising on the school’s pitch in preparation for a football competition before the lightning started.

The eyewitness said about nine students were involved while six of them were resuscitated later at the school’s clinic where they were first rushed to.

Days after the sad incident, the school has unveiled the identities of the students who lost their lives.

They are: Obi Chukwunwike (16) from Nteje, Oyi Local Government, Obeta Uchechukwu (16) from Nsukka, Enugu State and Usulor Chidubem (19) from Ezza, in Ebonyi State.

Soludo Reacts

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo was said to have wept following the revelation of the names.

He also advised pupils to seek shelter anytime it rained, to avoid the recurrence of the sad incident.

In a statement yesterday by his Press Secretary, Chris Aburime, in Awka, the governor extended condolences to the college, grieving pupils and the bereaved families.
