1. Tinubu To Depart Nigeria For Saudi Arabia

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja, for Saudi Arabia to attend the Saudi-Africa and Arab-Africa summits in Riyadh.

Recall that last month, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Adel Al-Jubeir, had stated that his country looked forward to hosting President Tinubu.

After meeting with Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, Al-Jubeir told Journalists, “We believe that our two countries can take the tremendous history that they have and use it to move our relationship to greater heights. This was the message, and we look forward to hosting the Saudi Arabia-Africa summit in the kingdom soon.”

Al-Jubeir stated that the summit will move the Nigeria-Saudi relationship to greater heights.

“We cooperate in virtually all areas; we have very strong People-to-People ties. We are members of OPEC, and we believe that we are cooperating very closely to deal with the challenges facing our world whether it’s climate change, sustainable development, combating extremism and terrorism, or promoting free trade and investments,” he stated.

2. Kogi, Bayelsa And Imo Election: IGP Orders Distribution Of 220 Operational Vehicles For Security

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the distribution of 220 operational vehicles for security management ahead of the gubernatorial elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states.

The spokesperson of the police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced this in a post on X, on Sunday.

Adejobi revealed that the vehicles include water cannons, armoured personnel carriers, helmets, bulletproof vests, and tear gas canisters.

He further urged stakeholders in the three states to maintain peace during the election.

3. Emulate Gbenga Daniel And Dankwambo, Reject Illegal Pension – Falana Urges Akpabio, Others

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) has urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and other former governors in the executive and legislature to follow in the footsteps of Gbenga Daniel and Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo by rejecting the payment of “illegal pension?”

Falana, who is the chairman of Alliance on Surviving Covid-19 and Beyond, made the call in a statement on Sunday.

He recalled how Senators Daniel, and Dankwambo, in compliance with court judgement, requested the governors of Ogun and Gombe States, respectively, to stop paying them pensions.

He praised the senators for taking such bold steps at a time when not less than 20 former governors in the executive and legislative branches of government are receiving double salaries.

4. Labour Accuses Governor Uzodinma Of Plotting To Assassinate NLC President

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has accused Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma of plotting to assassinate the president of the union, Joe Ajaero.

In a statement seen by Naija News on Sunday, the union accused Uzodinma of invading the hometown of the union’s president in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Saturday.

The union alleged that Uzodinma instituted the latest attack, believing that Ajaero would still be in his hometown recuperating from the bruises he received when he was arrested during the union’s protest on Wednesday.

5. Details Of What Sanusi Lamido And New CBN Governor, Cardoso Discussed Emerges

The new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso has vowed that he and the deputy governors of the apex bank would work to change the public perception of the bank.

He pledged that the new management team of the CBN would put in their best to ensure that inflation is managed and the economic well-being of Nigerians improve.

Cardoso stated this in Abuja last week when he played host to the Impact Investing Community, led by the former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido, who is also a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

According to him, their plan is to positively affect the lives of Nigerians by focusing on the core mandate of price stability.

The CBN Governor said: “At the end of our tenure, we want to look back and see that our policies have positively impacted people’s lives.”

On his part, Sanusi expressed concerns about Nigeria’s inflation rate and urged the new leadership of the CBN to work persistently at driving down the rate.

He charged the new CBN management team to embrace long-term planning and advised on the need for the fiscal authorities to focus on agriculture and education, especially for the girl-child.

The former Emir promised his continued support, along with the Impact Investing Community, to the CBN in achieving its goals.

6. ‘It Is Obvious PDP Governors Have Dumped Atiku, He May Be Expelled From The Party’ – Former Aide

A former Special Adviser to the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, Umar Ado has submitted that signs on the wall already shows Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have dumped the party’s 2023 presidential candidate.

According to him, the honeymoon between the Governors and Atiku has ended and both parties have gone their separate ways.

Ardo, who was the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Adamawa State during the 2023 elections held that with the way things are, it’s just a matter of time before an implosion happens.

He predicted that very soon, either Atiku would be expelled from the PDP or the former Vice President would leave on his own.

He stressed that the Governors and Atiku recently expressed divergent views on the Supreme Court verdict regarding the 2023 presidential election. While Atiku rejected the position of the Supreme Court, the Governors seemed to have embraced it and praised the leadership abilities of President Bola Tinubu.

7. Court Restrain NLC From Strike In Imo After Attack On Ajaero

The National Industrial Court in Owerri, Imo State, has restrained the organised Labour from embarking on any kind of strike in the state until further notice.

The court warned that any move to disobey its order would attract consequences.

Justice N C S Ogbuanya gave the order last Friday after hearing the submissions of counsels to both parties that they were yet to reach a settlement on their dispute.

The defendants are the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Secretary-General, Emmanuel Ugboaja and the Trade Union Congress and its Secretary-General, Nuhu Toro.

In the suit No NICN/ OW/41/2023, the Attorney General of Imo State and the Imo State Government are claimants.

The court held that in considering the motion for interlocutory injunction by the claimants, after hearing from both counsels, it has reserved November 30, 2023, for the ruling.

8. Flights Resume At Ibadan Airport After Jet Crash-Landed

The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State have resumed flight activities after the facility was closed briefly by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

Naija News understands that the Federal Government closed the airport as it carried out investigations into the private jet accident that occurred at the facility on Friday night.

The aircraft, which crash-landed close to the runway, disrupted flight activities at the airport, as accident investigators were deployed to the scene.

Sources that spoke with Punch, revealed that the airport had been opened to operations, as a domestic airline had already resumed operations there.

A senior official at the airport, who pleaded not to be named due to lack of authorisation said, “It was shut down briefly for yesterday (Saturday) only, but reopened for operations this (Sunday) morning.”

9. Presidential Yacht: Tinubu Followed Footsteps Of Obasanjo And Jonathan, No Need For Comparison – Ex-aide, Niboro

Ima Niboro, a former presidential spokesman of erstwhile president, Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed a 2010 report detailing how his former principal rejected the presidential yacht from the navy and directed them to use the funds to refurbish their aging fleet.

Speaking via a statement, Niboro pointed out that this was a Daily Trust news report published 13 years ago and wondered why it is being used as a comparison between Jonathan and President Bola Tinubu.

He explained that the issue of the presidential yacht is probably as old as the navy itself, adding that it came up under former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration but he rejected it and reportedly directed the navy to convert it to a special-purpose gunboat.

Speaking further, he noted that under Jonathan, the issue also came up again, and the president rejected it and directed the navy to seek a virement from the National Assembly and use the N3.3 billion budget to rebuild its fleet.

He added that Tinubu has also followed in the footsteps of his predecessors and rejected the so-called presidential yacht.

10. Those Responsible For Nigeria’s Problems Are Not Also Safe – Bishop Kukah

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah has submitted that for Nigeria to overcome its challenges, the people must look inward and deploy home-grown solutions.

The outspoken clergyman submitted that though the country’s problems look gigantic, they are all surmountable.

He added that those responsible for problems in the country are also suffering the repercussions and they have no peace themselves.

Kukah called on Nigerians not to see their country as the only one with challenges, because when they travel to other nations and environments, they will discover that all parts of the world also have their own unique challenges.
