November 11 Elections: We Have Keen Interest – British High Commissioner Says During Courtesy Visit To Ganduje

As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the November 11 governorship polls in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States, the British High Commission has shown its interest in the forthcoming election.

According to the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Richard Montgomery, his country has a keen interest in the November 11 governorship elections in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states.

Montgomery said, “Of topical concern are the off-season elections in the three states. We are watching closely to see how the process will be carried on,” Naija News reports.

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria made this disclosure on Tuesday when he paid a visit to the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

During the visit, Montgomery said he was at the APC headquarters to congratulate Ganduje on his new role as the party’s helmsman.

He also described the APC as a national party “helping to shape the politics of Nigeria”, adding that the legal issues regarding elections in Nigeria, including reclaiming of mandates at the courts, were part of the democratic process.

In his remarks, Ganduje said, democracy is about good governance, and that the APC represents a strong democratic institution that is the hope for all Nigerians.

The APC national chairman said, “If a political party is not well-structured, democracy will be affected. We are looking forward to stronger ties.”
