FG To Empower 108 Stranded Nigerians After Return From Niger Republic

The Federal Government is reportedly making plans to integrate 108 Nigerian migrants stranded in Niger Republic into various programmes.

The citizens, including 32 males, 29 females, 44 children and three infants, were recently received in the country.

The Southwest Zonal Coordinator, National Commission For Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Mr Alexander Oturu, confirmed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday (today).

“The migrants were conveyed to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, camp where the NCFRMI and International Organisation for Migration have a tripartite agreement to provide temporary shelter for the returnees.

“Before they are provided with onward transportation allowance to enable them to get to their final destinations,” The PUNCH quoted Oturu as saying.

The NCFRMI coordinator noted that the return of the citizens was facilitated by the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the IOM.

”In line with Mr President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the returnees will be integrated into various government programmes, as well as the reintegration programmes of the UN Migration Agency,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian student, identified only as Ikem, was allegedly brutally murdered by a group of Chinese in the Republic of Philipines.

An ally to the deceased, according to the Punch, Michael Ojuola, shared photos of the remains of Ikem on the microblogging platform, X formerly Twitter, page on Sunday.

Michael said the deceased was tied and beaten severely before he gave up the ghost.

Sharing photos of the deceased, he wrote, “A friend of mine, A Nigerian Medical Student named Ikem studying in the Republic of Philippines, was brutally murdered by a group of Chinese.

“They tied his hands up, covered and tied his mouth and was beaten blue-black until he gave up the gh*st.

“This should never be allowed to get swept under the carpet regardless of the relationship btw the Philippines and China.!

“This is so inhuman and barbaric! I can’t even think straight at the moment cos of the horrific videos I’m getting right now from the hospital.”

He further called on the Chairman of the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, alongside other stakeholders, to address the situation.
