November 11 Elections: INEC Postpones Meeting With Ribadu

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu‘s meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) earlier scheduled for Monday, 23rd October has been postponed.

Naija News understands that Ribadu was earlier scheduled to meet the electoral body to discuss the security situation in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states ahead of the November 11 governorship election in the states.

However, the meeting has been postponed until Friday, as confirmed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.

The reason for the postponement is unclear, but it may be related to Ribadu’s attendance at the Supreme Court today.

Supreme Court Reserves Judgement In Atiku’s Petition Against Tinubu

Naija News reported earlier that Ribadu was at the Supreme Court on Monday, where the judgment was reserved in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), which affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023, presidential election.

The decision was reached by the seven-man panel of the apex court led by Justice John Okoro after lawyers to the parties in the case adopted their briefs of argument and made final submissions.

The Supreme Court judges listened to the arguments from lawyers on the motion filed by the appellants to supply fresh evidence.

On his part, the legal counsel of Atiku, Chris Uche (SAN), urged the court to grant the motion, allow their appeal and accept fresh evidence. He prayed the court to grant their request seeking Tinubu’s disqualification.

However, lawyers to the respondents – Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN (for the Independent National Electoral Commission), Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN (for Tinubu) and Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN (for the All Progressives Congress) urged the court to dismiss both the motion and appeal for lacking in merit.

The judges thereafter reserved judgment till a date to be communicated to the parties.
