Breaking: Supreme Court Begins Hearing Atiku's Case Against Tinubu

The Supreme Court has commenced hearing of the appeals filed against the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 elections.

The Supreme Court hearing commenced with the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The seven-member panel of the apex court for Monday’s hearing is led by Justice Inyang John Okoro.

Other members of the panel are Justices Uwani Abba-Aji, Mohammed Lawal Garba, Adamu Jauro, Ibrahim Saulawa, Tijani Abubakar and Emmanuel Agim.

The lawyers for the parties in the case have started announcing their presence in court.

Naija News reports the Lead Justice of the Supreme Court Panel hearing the appeal filed by the PDP, Justice Inyang Okoro has told parties that judgment in the appeal will be reserved.

Akpabio May Emerge As Interim President

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, may take over from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as Interim President should the Supreme Court rule in favour of the 2023 presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of Labour Party, in their separate cases challenging the outcome of February 25th election.

Naija News reports that there is suspense and palpable tension across the country as the Supreme Court starts hearing on the appeals filed against the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC), which affirmed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu as the authentic winner of the 25th February 2023 presidential election.

Should the court pass its judgement in favour of the applicants, including the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), President Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima, would have to vacate their respective offices.

In the case of such an event, their positions would be occupied by the third in command in the nation’s political structure, which by the constitution, would be the Senate President.
