Breaking: Political Party Drops Charges Against Tinubu's Victory At Supreme Court

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has withdrawn the appeal filed at the Supreme Court, challenging the election victory of President Bola Tinubu.

The party announced its withdrawal on Monday during the proceedings at the apex court. The appellant’s lawyer, Chukwuma Majukwu Umeh applied to withdraw it.

Following the withdrawal, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal for lack of merit.

In dismissing the appeal, members of the Supreme Court panel noted that it was a frivolous case because the apex court, in an earlier case of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) v. INEC and others, resolved the issue that Shettima was properly nominated.

Justice Okoro pointedly asked Umeh what he thought his client would benefit from the outcome of the case if not only to further overburden the court.

Naija News understands Umeh had made efforts to distinguish his client’s case from that of the PDP v. INEC and others, but ultimately withdrew the case after Justice Okoro insisted that the appeal lacked any utilitarian value.

Supreme Court Reserves Judgement In Atiku’s Petition Against Tinubu

The Supreme Court on Monday reserved judgment in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar challenging the decision of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) which affirmed the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

The decision was reached by the seven-man panel of the apex court led by Justice John Okoro after lawyers to the parties in the case adopted their briefs of argument and made final submissions.

The Supreme Court judges listened to the arguments from lawyers on the motion filed by the appellants to supply fresh evidence.
