The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed confidence that the Super Eagles could win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that will begin on 13 January and played through 11 February 2024 in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 58-year-old former manager of the Super Eagles believed that the Nigeria national team possessed the necessary qualities to emerge victorious in the competition.

The last time the Super Eagles tasted success on the continent was in 2013 in South Africa, Naija News recalls. The three-time AFCON winner is determined to clinch their fourth title in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

Jose Peseiro’s team has been placed in Group A alongside the host nation, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. Eguavoen maintains that the Super Eagles have the potential to defeat the other 23 teams and claim the title.

Eguavoen, however, boasts that the Super Eagles can beat the 23 other teams to the title.

“We have been craving to try to get the Nations Cup back; since 2013, we’ve not been able to achieve that feat; we know we have the capacity, we have the quality and everything to be able to win it,” Eguavoen told Brila FM on Tuesday morning.

“But to say it is easy to achieve, is another thing, so everybody has to work towards the same goal, support the team whichever way we can, support the coaches, and the players have to go out there and do the job,” he added.
