An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Lagos State, Chief Livinus Chukwudi Okwara, has advised the party as well as other parties on how to handle the case of their candidate’s academic qualifications prior to elections.

Okwara, who was reacting to the controversies surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu‘s Chicago State University (CSU) certificate and academic records, expressed his belief that the issues should have been internal matters within the party.

To prevent the situation from escalating and negatively impacting the ongoing democratic process in the country, the APC chieftain suggests that Nigerians should prioritize education as a key issue in the pre-election period and not after the elections.

Okwara proposes that the party thoroughly examine the educational qualifications of their candidates and either approve or disqualify them based on the criteria outlined in the party’s constitution before allowing them to run for any elective position.

He argues that this process would be more efficient and would protect candidates who do not meet the necessary criteria from facing legal challenges, significant electoral expenses, or even disqualification from running for their desired positions.

He cautions Nigerians against tearing the country apart by placing undue emphasis on certificates.

Chief Okwara insisted that the current focus on President Tinubu’s CSU controversy is needlessly inflaming the political climate.
