Ogbomoso Central Mosque Shut Down Over Leadership Tussle

The Ogbomoso Central Mosque, located in the Oka’gbo area of the Oyo State town, has been reportedly shut down over a leadership tussle.

Reports obtained by Naija News on Friday revealed that some Muslim leaders in the town unanimously agreed to close the worship centre following controversies surrounding the selection of the Chief Imam of the town, Sheikh Teliat Yinus Oluwasina Ayilara.

Daily Post quoted a source from the town to have said that the decision to close the Muslim worship centre was taken on Thursday as some who are against the selection of Ayilara argued that the cleric is not from the town.

He added that the emergency closure order by the Muslim leaders was to prevent Ayilara from conducting the Jumat service today and to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The source, who reportedly pleaded not to be named, said the leaders who took the decision included the Aare Musulumi of Ogbomosoland, Alhaji Abdulganiy Atanda Owodunni; the Asoju Musulumi, Alhaji Minkaheel Yussuf; the Balogun Musulumi, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Bello; and other notable leaders.

The leaders, therefore, urged Muslims in the community to observe the Jumat service in mosques close to their respective residences today, pending the final determination of the matter.
