Nigeria’s basketball national team, D’Tigers defeated the Serbian basketball team 81-53 to maintain their stunning form in the ongoing China-friendly basketball competition.

D’Tigers defeated the FIBA world number six-ranked team after an earlier impressive 75-70 win over Team USA in their opening game in China.

Recall that the Nigerian men’s senior basketball team left the country last Monday for a playing tour of games in China. The tour is expected to end on October 20.

Their stunning form in China started after failing to advance to the Paris 2024 Olympics in a qualification series held in their home country, Nigeria (in the city of Lagos) in August 2023.

Hence, the tour of games in China is just a part of one of the many development initiatives run by the Nigeria Basketball Federation board, which is chaired by Musa Ahmadu-Kida.

Recall that the former President Muhammadu Buhari permitted the sports ministry to withdraw Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for two years in May 2022. This was because of a persistent leadership crisis within the Nigeria Basketball Federation as well as players’ protests for better welfare benefits and treatment.

After returning from the Federal Government’s self-imposed suspension last year, players in the local league and from other leagues across the world are using the China Autumn Tour, an all-expenses-paid competition, as a morale booster.
