Tinubu: Obama, Trump Also Shielded Academic Records – Onanuga

The former Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Bayo Onanuga, has reacted to the legal battle over the academic records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Chicago State University (CSU).

Recall that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has filed an application at the US District Court for an order directing discovery from Chicago State University of the record of President Tinubu.

Following the application, the court ordered the University to release the academic records of the President to the former Vice President within two days and also certify its authenticity under oath.

However, President Tinubu filed an emergency application at a US District Court, seeking a review of the judgement that ordered the release of his academic records to Atiku Abubakar.

In a ruling on the application, US District Judge Nancy Maldonado agreed to stay an order directing Chicago State University to make Tinubu’s academic document available to the legal team of Atiku.

But the camp of the PDP candidate, the Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have berated President Tinubu for asking the court not to release his academic records.

Reacting to the development in an X post on Wednesday, Onanuga said supporters of Atiku and Peter Obi continue to chase shadows and waste time controverting President Tinubu’s attendance at Chicago State University.

Onanuga also shared a news story of how former US Presidents, Barack Obama and Donald Trump, shielded their academic record to enlighten ‘those Obi and Atiku supporters’ berating the President for shielding his academic records.

He wrote: “Supporters of Atiku and Peter Obi continue to chase shadows and waste time controverting President Tinubu’s attendance of Chicago State University. The unassailable truth is that he attended the university and graduated in 1979. As far back as 1999, I knew this to be the truth.

“Here is a story from the archives to enlighten those Obi and Atiku supporters berating President Tinubu for shielding his academic records from Atiku Abubakar. Obama shielded his own and Donald Trump too.”
