INEC Finally Opens Up IReV Failure During 2023 Presidential Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed Saturday, 21st September 2024, for the conduct of the Edo State governorship election.

Naija News reports that INEC disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement on X signed by the Chairman of the Publicity and Voter Committee, Sam Olumekun.

The electoral body also announced Saturday, 16th November 2024, for the conduct of the Ondo state Governorship election.

INEC said the announcement is in line with Section 178 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), that says election into the said offices shall hold not earlier than 150 days and not later than 30 days before the expiration of the tenure of the last holder of the office.

According to INEC, the final list of candidates will be published on 23rd April 2024 while the campaign in public by political parties will commence on 24th April 2024 and end 24 hours before election day.

The electoral body said the tenure of the Governors of Edo and Ondo States will end on 11th November 2024 and 23rd February 2025 respectively.

INEC, therefore, appealed to political parties and candidates to note the activities in the timetable for strict compliance.
