Kylian Mbappe Agrees To Forgo €100 Million Royalty Bonus At PSG

The France national team captain, Kylian Mbappé, has reportedly agreed to forgo a loyalty bonus at Paris Saint Germain worth €100 million.

The 24-year-old French striker ought to receive this royalty bonus in August for not leaving the club since he signed a new deal with the club in May 2022.

Recall that Kylian Mbappe joined PSG first on loan in 2017 before he signed a permanent deal with the club on July 1, 2018, for a transfer fee worth €180 million.

The contract he signed with PSG in 2022 will expire on June 30, 2024, and comes with a season extension option.

However, earlier this summer, Mbappe wrote to PSG to inform them that he didn’t want to sign the one-season extension, a development that caused a serious contract tussle between the French giants and the Frenchman.

Due to the development, PSG who don’t want to lose him for free next summer decided to put him up for sale this summer but no top club in Europe was able to make a concrete move for him.

Only Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal made a record €300 million bid for the Frenchman, PSG accepted the bid but Kylian Mbappe whose dream is to join Real Madrid refused to negotiate with the Saudi club.

Amidst all that, PSG kicked him out of the pre-season squad and missed the club’s first game of the season. However, he has been reinstated into the club but he is yet to extend his contract.

So far this season, Kylian Mbappe has proven his love for football by scoring five league goals in three games amidst the yet-to-be-fully-resolved contract tussle.

Earlier today, French media outlet, L’Équipe, reported that PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was persuaded to allow Kylian Mbappe to return to the squad after the Frenchman accepted to forgo his royalty bonus even though it is a prerequisite of his current contract.

The fact that this agreement is informal and is seen as a gentlemen’s agreement between Mbappe and Al-Khelaifi, means that it is subject to change should the situation in the lingering transfer saga change to Mbappe’s disadvantage.
