The PUNCH: Nigerians have expressed anger over the delay in the distribution of the palliatives by the state governors. The Nigeria Labour Congress, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, National Union of Pensioners and others in separate interviews with The PUNCH on Tuesday, lamented the hunger among their members and expressed misgivings about the way the palliatives package was being handled by the authorities.
The Guardian: The Federal Government has disregarded debts owed by operators of leased port terminals and proceeded to renew the agreements, The Guardian has learnt. Also waived are various terms of contracts, which the operators have flagrantly violated during the lease.
The Vanguard: The African Union, AU, yesterday asked its commission to compile a list of members of the military junta and their supporters in the Niger Republic for targeted sanctions and “application of individual punitive measures.’’
The Nation: The arrival of Russian mercenary group Wagner in Mali with soldiers, arms and ammunition, has introduced a new twist into the crisis over the military coup in Niger Republic. The Wagner group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, a few days after appearing in a video at a time he was believed to be in Congo, showed up in Mali, dressed in military fatigue.
Daily Trust: The African Union has suspended the Republic of Niger over the military coup staged on July 26 that toppled the democratic government of President Mohamed Bazoum. AU said the suspension will last until civilian rule in the country is reinstated and would assess the implications of any armed intervention in the troubled West African country.
